Grace Received, Grace Shared Scripture: Ephesians 2:8–10
Grace Received, Grace Shared
Scripture: Ephesians 2:8–10
Some mornings, faith feels like a flame surrounded by a darkness. We carry responsibilities, memories of failure, and worries about people we love. Yet God's invitation does not begin with our strength. It begins with grace.
In Ephesians 2:8–10, Paul reminds us that salvation is God's gift, received through faith, not earned through achievement. Then he points us toward a life of good works. We are not loved because we serve; we serve because we are loved.
This rhythm stands at the heart of Methodist faith. God's grace reaches toward us before we recognize it, welcomes us through Christ, and continues shaping us into people who love more deeply. John Wesley's emphasis on holiness invites us beyond private religious feelings into love expressed through ordinary actions.
Imagine a lamp beside an open Bible. Its light does not remain on the page. It spreads across the table and reaches toward the doorway. In the same way, time spent with God prepares us to step into the world with compassion.
Today, your faithful response may be simple: call someone who feels forgotten, forgive a hurt, share a meal, or listen without rushing. These actions cannot purchase God's favor. They can reveal the grace working within you.
Do not despise a small beginning. A gentle word can interrupt bitterness. A generous act can restore hope. A prayer can open your heart to another person's suffering.
Let Scripture nourish you, prayer steady you, and fellowship encourage you. Then carry Christ's love into the places where you already live. Grace received becomes grace shared.
Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for loving me before I could earn or understand your love. Shape my heart through your Spirit, and help me turn today's ordinary moments into opportunities for mercy, justice, and joyful service. In Jesus' name, amen.
